Movie Analysis The Movie Renton - 924 Words

The movie trainspotting showed multiple forms of drug use throughout its duration. This included cigarette use, alcohol use, as well as some amphetamine use. However, the substance of choice throughout the movie was heroine in which the majority of the main characters were addicted to. One of the most important themes of the movie was the main characters struggle with relapsing. In the movie Renton, the main character, relapses twice; with the first relapse being the worst one. Gorskis relapse process on pages 88-90 demonstrate the series of thought processes that occur from the moment Renton gets off heroin to the moment he relapses. It can be seen that various internal struggles lead to the reuse of the drug. He hits a bottom during this time period and begins committing petty crimes in order to fund his drug habits (pg. 4). This series of events was triggered by a tragedy that Renton and his buddies witnessed, which was the death of dawn a, for lack of a better word, crack baby. A s stated by the literature, trigger events can often be evoked by feelings (pg. 97-98). Although the death of the baby was not the trigger event that led to the relapse it fueled the use of heroin to cope with his internal struggles (pgs. 97-98). His second relapse was not as devastating as the first. At this point in the movie Renton was being pressured to test some heroin to see if they could sell it.
